Welcome to Idlewylde
Once a sprawling estate owned by bellmaker Joshua Regester, Idlewylde has gone through dramatic changes while maintaining its old-time charm. The development of this adorable Maryland community began in the early 1900s. Now containing about 700 homes, this neighborhood offers the convenience of proximity to downtown Baltimore and Towson.
Throughout the decades, the builders of Idlewylde changed, and the styles changed with them — giving the neighborhood its distinct look. Some families have lived in Idlewylde for generations, yet others are recent transplants. Anyone looking into Idlewylde would do well to weigh the suburb’s central location and quaint residences. With homes ranging from small 1920s bungalows and Cape Cods to brick Colonials, would-be residents have plenty of options when moving to this picturesque community.

Dining, Entertainment, Shopping & More
When it’s time to shop or grab a bite, Idlewylde residents have a great variety of options within minutes along the York Road corridor. Vallegio Cafe, The Charmery, Pure Raw Juice, and Starbucks are just a couple of local favorites. You also have Ayd Hardware which has served the community since 1974. A short drive to nearby Towson offers larger retail malls like Towson Town Center, The Shops at Kenilworth (with Trader Joe’s), Towson Place, and Towson Row. Each contains retail multitudes from boutique shops to larger chain stores like Target, Whole Foods, Utla, and PetSmart. Macy’s and Nordstrom are the flagship stores of the Towson Town Center. Â
For outdoor fun, Overlook Park offers a 12-acre spot with athletic fields, tennis courts, a basketball court, a playground & trails. In addition to Overlook Park, locals can exercise at the Towson YMCA, and True Balance Studio, or explore the neighborhood’s rich history at the Regester family summer estate. The 1853-built summer home is the oldest building in south Towson and can still be seen at 6508 Crestwood Road. Although altered by a fire, the house remains a reminder of this community’s roots. In addition to local Towson restaurants, nearby downtown Baltimore offers top-rated eateries, like Woodberry Kitchen. This hip restaurant serves refined, contemporary American cuisine in its rustic-chic dining room. With a commitment to farm-to-table produce, each meal bursts with fresh flavors. Other fine dining favorites in the city include Petit Louis Bistro, Charleston, The Food Market. A few casual options include Ekiben, La Cuchara, and Maggie's Farm.
